Prime Minister & Chief of Government, The Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe

Patrice Emery Trovoada, a dedicated public servant, currently serves as the Prime Minister and Chief of Government of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe since November 11, 2022. Following his party's victory in the parliamentary elections held on September 26, 2022, he took office a little over a month later.

Having previously served as Prime Minister on three occasions, Patrice Trovoada's political career began in February 2008 when he led a coalition government. He later led a minority government in August 2010 and a 60% majority government in October 2014. Born on March 18, 1962, in Libreville, Gabon, he is an economist educated in France. His wife, Nana, is a French-Malian economist educated in the United States, and he is the father of seven children.

Patrice Trovoada's father, Miguel Trovoada, played a significant role in the movement for São Tomé and Príncipe's independence. He served as the country's first democratically elected President from 1991 to 2001. Patrice Trovoada is the President of the Independent Democratic Action (ADI), the largest political party in São Tomé and Príncipe since 2010.

In addition to his political career, Patrice Trovoada has been actively engaged in international affairs. From January 2019 to September 2022, he worked with organisations such as the African Union and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, focusing on election monitoring and conflict prevention in Africa. He also dedicated his efforts to the development of e-governance and infrastructure on the continent.

During his tenure as Prime Minister from 2014 to 2018, Patrice Trovoada's government achieved significant milestones and implemented various reforms. These included economic growth, infrastructure development, improved access to clean water and electricity, eradication of malaria, expansion of the children's meal program, and advancements in e-governance. These efforts led to improved social indicators and quality of life for the citizens of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Patrice Trovoada has established strong international relationships for his country, focusing on sustainable solutions for development. As the first Muslim leader in a predominantly Christian country, he has gained respect on international platforms through his fluency in Portuguese, French, and English, and his understanding of global issues.

With a strong mandate from the 2022 parliamentary elections, Patrice Trovoada is dedicated to the growth and development of São Tomé and Príncipe. Since taking office, he has been working tirelessly to bring stability to the country and address economic challenges.
