(Head of Climate Change Commonwealth)
Unnikrishnan Divakaran Nair, is the head of Climate Change at the Commonwealth Secretariat, leading the climate change programme of the Secretariat focussing on the flagship initiatives like the Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub and the Commonwealth Living Lands Charter.
Before the Commonwealth, he was serving the UN Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC) at Bonn as the officer responsible for the Climate Finance and National Adaptation Plans (NAP) process for the Small Island States and Least Developed Countries.
Unnikrishnan also had a long stint at GIZ in India, as a Senior Adviser, managing the climate finance and natural resource management vertical under Indo-German bilateral cooperation.
Unnikrishnan is a development professional with an educational background in agriculture and climate science, with over 20 years of experience in the areas of Climate Change Adaptation and mitigation, Project Development and Implementation, Policies on Climate Finance, International Accreditation to Climate Funds including the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and expertise in climate vulnerability and livelihood issues in Agriculture, Water and Forestry in the Development Context of Small Island Nations, Least Developed and Developing countries.
He also worked with a range of organisations from civil society to community-based organisations to the private sector, and bilateral and multilateral agencies across multiple countries.
